Review: 1-year risk of previously undiagnosed cancer is 6.3% in patients with newly diagnosed venous thromboembolism
Evidence-Based Medicine, 06/10/09
Rodger MA - Patients with newly diagnosed venous thromboembolism have a 6.3% risk of previously undiagnosed cancer being detected in the following year. The risk is greater in patients with unprovoked venous thromboembolism. The authors also evaluated the effectiveness of extensive compared with limited screening for detecting cancer at the time of VTE diagnosis, but this part of the review did not meet methodological criteria so is not included in the abstract.
