Cerebral Microbleeds Are Frequent in Infective Endocarditis. A Case–Control Study
Stroke, 10/06/09
Klein I et al. – CMBs are highly frequent in patients with IE. The strong association found between IE and CMBs supports the need for further evaluation of CMBs as additional diagnostic criteria of IE.
Isabelle Klein, 10/07/09
| CMBs are radiological features only detected by specific MRI sequence, with T2*-weighting, highly sensitive to these small microhemorrhages. CMBs may reflect vasculitis or mycotic aneurysm but the exact nature of lesions is unknown. In the clinical practice, these features may help in diagnosis management of IE. In our series, none of IE patients with CMBs had acute hemorrhagic complications (data not reported) but the prognosis value of CMBs needs further evaluation. |
