Matrix metalloproteinase-9 genotypes and haplotypes are associated with multiple sclerosis and with the degree of disability of the disease
Journal of Neuroimmunology, 08/07/09
Fernandes KSS et al. – The (CA)n polymorphism may contribute to multiple sclerosis (MS) susceptibility, but C-1562T and (CA)n haplotypes may modulate disease severity.
Methods- Study of whether the MMP-9 C-1562T and (CA)13–25 polymorphisms are associated with MS
- Assessment of 165 pts (92 white/73 mulatto) and 191 controls (96 white/95 mulatto)
- No difference in C-1562T polymorphism between MS and healthy subjects
- (CA)n genotypes and alleles associated with MS
- Haplotypes not associated with MS but seem relevant to clinical status of MS
