Further testing of this drug, or a related glitazone-type drug, in a larger group of MS patients is needed to confirm and expand upon these initial findings. If confirmed in a larger group of patients, this might prove useful as an adjunct treatment. Whether it would have any effect on other forms of MS is also not yet known. Other members of this class of drugs, the TZDs, are currently being tested by labs around the world, in other neurological diseases including AD, PD, ALS, and stroke. Our findings of possible neuroprotective effects might therefore be applicable to other neurological conditions and diseases.
