Preliminary evaluation of the DDS-PC inventory: a new tool to assess impulsive-compulsive behaviours associated to dopamine replacement therapy in Parkinson's disease

Cabrini S et al. – Preliminary results suggest that the dopamine dysregulation syndrome (DDS)-PC inventory may help to identify pts experiencing impulsive–compulsive behaviors associated with DDS.

Methods

Report of a preliminary evaluation of a questionnaire to assess presence of impulsive-compulsive behaviors associated with dopamine replacement therapy in Parkinsons disease (PD)
Dysregulated behaviors: reward-seeking behaviors (pathological gambling, hypersexuality, compulsive shopping, binge eating, reckless driving), punding, and compulsive medication use
Screen of 38 pts and their caregivers
Comparison of DDS vs non-DDS pts

Results

Questionnaire was well accepted with a preliminary good discriminant validity
Clinically relevant dysregulated condition is associated with younger age, younger age at disease onset, levodopa-equivalent daily dose, UPDRS III, increased global psychopathology (interpersonal sensitivity and psychoticism), and differences in inventory
