Koerbel A et al. - In a study to assess the frequency of postoperative venous congestion-related complications following petrosal vein obliteration as well as on pre- and intraoperative findings related to them, it appears that preservation of the petrosal venous complex, especially of large caliber veins, should be attempted whenever possible to increase the safety of surgery. In cases of petrosal vein obliteration, effective brainstem decompression following tumour removal is essential to minimizing risk of cerebellar congestion.
