Sleep and Biological Rhythms, 06/03/09
Magee CA et al. – Results suggest that sleep restriction alters the hormonal regulation of appetite in a manner predictive of increased energy intake.
Methods- Study of the effects of 2 nights of sleep restriction on neuroendocrine hormones involved in regulating body weight
- Regulating hormones: peptide YY (PYY), ghrelin, glucagon-like peptide-1, adiponectin, and leptin
- Subjects: 10 healthy men age 18-23 yrs
- Sleep restriction for 2 consecutive nights
- Night of sleep restriction vs night of normal sleep associated with significant reduction in PYY levels and a significant reduction in satiety levels
