Inpatient Hemodialysis Initiation: Reasons, Risk Factors and Outcomes
Nephron: Clinical Practice, 10/12/09
Crews DC et al. – Inpatient hemodialysis initiation has a protective association with hospitalization among those patients referred late to nephrology, with multiple comorbidities and/or little social support.
Deidra C. Crews, 10/13/09
| In a U.S. prospective cohort of incident hemodialysis patients, we found that inpatient hemodialysis initiation has a protective relationship with future hospitalization among those patients who were referred late to nephrology, had multiple comorbid illnesses and/or lacked sufficient social support. Better identification of those patients who might benefit the most from inpatient initiation could result in more appropriate use of health care resources at the start of hemodialysis. |
