Mubarak M et al. – MCD and its variants are the leading cause of overall INS in children, followed by FSGS, which is the predominant pathology in steroid–resistant and adolescent nephrotic syndrome (NS). Data are in accordance with recent series from around the world with similar biopsy indications. The study defines the true pattern of glomerulopathies in childhood INS for the first time in Pakistan.

Exclusive Author Commentary
Muhammed Mubarak, 07/30/09

This is the first report in international literature on the histopathology of childhood idiopathic nephrotic syndrome from Pakistan, which is based on fully worked up renal biopsies by light microscopy, immunoflourescence, electron microscopy and serology. Therefore, it represents the true pattern of histopathology of childhood nephrotic syndrome from this country for valid comparison with other studies from different parts of the world.
