Renal Cortical Thickness as a Predictor of Renal Function and Blood Pressure Status Post Renal Artery Stenting
Angiology, 07/30/09
Padigala KK et al. – The study did not show a significant association of renal cortical thickness and outcomes of BP and GFR following stenting of atherosclerotic renal artery stenosis. However, the authors did find a greater improvement in BP and GFR in patients with abnormal cortical thickness compared to those with normal cortical thickness.

| We feel that more studies are needed to identify patients with renal artery stenosis who will benefit from intervention. In our study we chose renal cortical thickness as one parameter. Some studies have concentrated on renal size. We are eagerly waiting for the results of CORAL trial , a large prospective study to evaluate the effects of intervention in these patients. |
