Baas MC et al. - We report a case of a 56-year renal transplant recipient who developed acute irreversible transplant failure due to interstitial nephritis caused by mumps. RNA of the mumps virus was detected in the urine as well as in a renal biopsy. In view of the ongoing presence of the mumps virus in the population, one should be aware of the possible occurrence of this infection in immunocompromised patients.
