Sternberg CN - Until the AVOREN (Avastin for Renal Cell Cancer) trial, sunitinib was the only established first-line treatment for patients with favorable-risk and intermediate-risk, advanced RCC.1 The AVOREN trial was conceived because single-agent bevacizumab therapy, after cytokine treatment, had a 10% response rate and doubled time to progression.
