Attia K et al. - Renal failure represents a frequent complication of decompensated cirrhosis, and was an independent risk factor of mortality as was the CPT score in our study. Renal function was proportionally related to the severity of the liver disease and frequently associated with severe hyponatremia suggesting the likelihood of hepatorenal syndrome. The present study could not confirm the presence of hepatorenal syndrome because of its retrospective nature.
