Mathew JT et al. - The proapoptotic effect of aldosterone was inhibited by eplerenone, a selective aldosterone antagonist. These findings suggest that aldosterone besides its hemodynamic effects may also be directly contributing to the occurrence of mesangial cell apoptosis.
