Canedo J et al. – Patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) stages 3 and 4 had a higher incidence of postoperative infections than matched controls after colorectal surgery. acute renal failure (ARF) developed in 18.6% of patients. Preoperative optimization should include adequate hydration and assessment of potentially nephrotoxic substances for bowel preparation, preoperative antibiotics, and pain control.
