Management of periprosthetic infection in total hip arthroplasty
Orthopaedics and Trauma, 11/02/09
Sukeik MTS et al. – Total hip arthroplasty is one of the most commonly preferred orthopaedic procedures. Although the rate of deep infection after primary hip arthroplasty is relatively low, the economic burden, associated morbidity and mortality make it potentially devastating. Because of an ageing population will need an increasing number of arthroplasties, prevention, diagnosis and treatment of infection must be optimised in order to reduce both direct and indirect costs to patients and healthcare systems.
