Delaney CP et al. – evere abdominal pain in conjunction with appropriate clinical factors should lead to a high level of suspicion for mesenteric ischaemia. These patients must be rapidly and aggressively investigated and treated to maximise chances of survival. The encouraging results of recent studies using new biochemical markers may facilitate earlier diagnosis in the near future.
