Cox ME et al. – Type 2 diabetes is a prevalent disease with morbidity and mortality, and diagnosis is essential so that appropriate treatment can be provided. Office–based testing is recommended and can be conveniently undertaken with glucose–based tests, along with A1C testing in appropriate patients. This article offers a discussion of available tests used to screen for and diagnose type 2 diabetes. It reviews the evidence supporting different screening strategies and describes the test characteristics of different diagnostic approaches.
