Gender difference in mask ventilation training of anesthesia residents
Journal of Clinical Anesthesia, 06/01/09
Koga T et al. - Gender difference has an effect on the mask ventilation learning process, as it was more difficult for female residents to provide a tight air seal in the early stage of training.
Tomomichi Koga, 06/02/09
| Difficult mask ventilation was observed significantly more often with female as compared to male residents. Operator gender (female predominance) was shown to be an independent risk factor for difficult mask ventilation . Further, instances of significant gas flow leakage beneath the face mask and two-handed mask ventilation were observed more often with the female residents. Male residents were able to improve at a more rapid rate than female residents. |
