The American Medical Student Association (AMSA), the nation’s oldest and largest, independent association for physicians-in-training, and JSI Research & Training Institute, Inc. today announced that Edgar Woznica has been selected as the 2009 Mabelle Arole Fellow. Mr. Woznica, a senior at Brown University who hails from Oak Park, Illinois, was selected from a highly competitive field of applicants for the year-long Fellowship in India. The Mabelle Arole Fellowship was founded in 2001 by JSI Research & Training Institute, Inc., in honor of Dr. Mabelle Arole, who died in 1999. The Fellowship is named in memory of Dr. Arole’s dedication to the community and her wisdom in working with its members to determine what must be done to improve child and maternal health. This award is given annually to a recent college graduate to study community-based primary health care (CBPHC).
