Prophet L - Many departments need experienced doctors to carry out the day to day running of the hospital such as clinics and on-call and cannot function without them. More will be required in future as trainee numbers and working hours are cut. Know your worth and negotiate your job plan wisely. Do not underestimate your value as many have done in the past. Even if this will never be a career path for you, whether you are a trainee or consultant, have respect for those in this grade and treat them as experienced practitioners - assuming they deserve it.
