Grobler L et al. - A large number of educational, financial and regulatory interventions have been implemented in an attempt to address the inequitable distribution of health care professionals. While observational studies suggest that certain factors may influence providers' choice to practice in a rural or underserved area, this review finds that there are currently no well-designed studies in which bias and confounding are minimised to confirm or refute claims regarding the value of any of the existing interventions.
