α-Melanocyte Stimulating Hormone/Peroxisome Proliferator Activated Receptor-: a new connection in B16-F10 melanoma cells
Pigment Cell & Melanoma Research, 08/03/2012
Maresca V et al. – The authors are describing the existence of a new connection between α–Melanocyte Stimulating Hormone (α–MSH) and Peroxisome Proliferator activated Receptor–γ (PPAR–γ). In B16–F10 cells the authors have observed that this link exerts an influence on melanogenesis and proliferation and that the pathway which drives this connection is the phosphatidylinositol pathway. Most of the studies in cancer therapy exploit the possibility to activate directly PPARs by employing pharmacological agents. This study highlight a new aspect of PPAR–γ, placing this transcription factor inside a signal transduction pathway triggered by a hormone–receptor stimulus.
