As the indications for cochlear implantation continue to widen, we present a series of children with partial deafness in which there is preservation of low frequency hearing but loss of high frequency hearing. This pattern of hearing loss is also known as a "ski slope" pattern on the audiogram. High frequencies are important in that it contains a lot of the information of speech. Cochlear implantation techniques in this situation requires a technique in which the patient's residual hearing is preserved.
