Siepe CJ et al. – The data reveal a “therapeutic window” for total lumbar disc replacement in a cohort of patients with various stages of degenerative disc disease as long as preoperative facet joint complaints or degenerative facet arthropathies can be excluded and stringent preoperative decision making criteria are adhered to. Previously published absolute disc space height values as contraindication against total lumbar disc replacement should be reconsidered.
