Sacca SC et al. – The expressions of these proteins in the aqueous humor of glaucomatous patients reflect the damage occurring in anterior chamber endothelia, mainly including the trabecular meshwork, which is the main structure of this ocular segment injured by glaucoma.
Sergio Claudio Sacca (05/26/2012) comments:
The discovery that in AC there are all markers of atherosclerotic plaque is important because it helps us understand how the AC is physiologically a vessel and what happens in AC in course of glaucoma should be seen from this point of view. For this reason it is possible that the target of glaucoma in AC are both the endothelium and the cytoskeleton. This information might open up new ways in the glaucoma’s diagnosis and therapy.
