Exclusive author commentary
Azab B et al. – The albumin–globulin ratio is a significant independent predictor of long–term mortality after non–ST–segment elevation myocardial infarction (NSTEMI) in patients with normal serum albumin levels.
Basem Azab (02/24/2012) comments:
The albumin-globulin ratio or rather albumin-nonalbumin proteins ratio is an independent significant predictor of mortality in cardiac patients. Further studies are needed to investigate the main factor of low albumin in high risk patients( i.e. is it malnutrition or inflammatory ?). Also the nature of the non-albumin proteins is needed to be further illuminated.
