Kantsiper ME et al. - The success of the hospital medicine movement appears to have established it as an increasingly attractive medical specialty. Opportunities exist for prospective hospitalists to create a niche of interest within and beyond clinical care. Medical students and residents considering careers in hospital medicine may wish to examine how their professional satisfaction could be enhanced by the unique opportunities and challenges related to clinical duties, the work environment, opportunities for professional development, and lifestyle issues in hospital medicine. After reflecting upon their professional and personal needs, they can seek an environment where they will thrive.
