Stice E - Groups differed for depression symptoms (p<0.001), social adjustment (p = 0.016), and substance use (p = 0.002). Post-treatment. CBT reduced depression symptoms more than SET (p = 0.011), CBB (p<0.001), or AC (p<0.001); SET reduced depression symptoms more than CBB (p = 0.022); and CBT reduced substance use more than CBB (p = 0.027) or AC (p = 0.019). 6–month follow-up. CBT (p<0.001), SET (p = 0.008), and CBB (p = 0.023) reduced depression symptoms more than AC; CBT, SET, and CBB did not differ. CBT reduced substance use and improved social adjustment more than SET (p<0.05), CBB (p<0.02), and AC (p<0.005). Major depression was more frequent in the AC group (13%) than in CBT {6.7%}*, SET {6.8%}*, or CBB (2.5%) groups (p<0.05); CBT, SET, and CBB groups did not differ. In high-risk adolescents, cognitive-behavioural therapy reduced depression symptoms at 6 months more than assessment–only control but did not differ from other therapies.
