France JC et al. - Substantial support now exists to ascertain the cervical spine of a specific subset of trauma patients without the need for radiographs, but the criteria defining that subset must be followed carefully. Much of the recent literature on cervical clearance is devoted to advances in imaging techniques such as helical computed tomography and the use of plain radiographs for this purpose is diminishing.
