Gorter PM et al. - EAT and pericoronary fat were not associated with severity of coronary atherosclerosis and CAC in patients with suspected CAD. However, in those with low BMI, increased EAT and pericoronary fat were related to more severe coronary atherosclerosis and CAC. Fat surrounding coronary arteries may be involved in the process of coronary atherosclerosis, although this is different for patients with low and high BMIs.
