Almost three in four GPs experience difficulties when providing information to families about rare disorders, with many resorting to the internet for help, a new report has revealed. A rare disorder is described as one that affects five or fewer people in every 10,000. An estimated 5,000 to 7,000 such disorders exist worldwide, the vast majority of which affect children. Many disorders are so rare that the development of therapies is not even funded.
