- The medical records of all pts with lung cancer were reviewed for outcomes and family history of lung cancer
Results- 51% of pts were male and 93% had a smoking history
- 26% of pts had a family history of lung cancer, 115 had an affected first-degree relative
- No association between family history and histology or stage at diagnosis
- Median survival in pts with a family history of lung cancer was 53 mos vs 58 mos in pts w/o such a history
- Pts with a positive family history had an adjusted relative risk of death of 1.65 vs those w/o
- This risk was especially increased in those with an affected first-degree relative
