Reis ST et al. – The authors have demonstrated that metalloproteinase (MMP)–2 and its regulators are underexpressed in prostate cancer. Alternatively, overexpression of MMP–2 and TIMP–2 was related to higher Gleason score tumors. The authors postulate that alterations in metalloproteinase expression may be important in the control of tissue homeostasis related to prostate carcinogenesis and tumor behavior.
