Exclusive author commentary
Bourjeily G et al. – Based on patient and obstetric provider recollections of discussions, the issue of sleep disordered breathing (SDB) is poorly assessed during routine prenatal care, despite an increasing prevalence of overweight and obesity in the pregnant population.
Ghada Bourjeily (08/10/2012) comments:
Pregnant women are at risk for sleep disordered breathing. About a third of pregnant women snore and close to a quarter have daytime sleepiness. Yet this dosroder is poorly screened for in this population. More attention should be paid to this at risk population as more data is now suggesting adverse pregnancy outcomes associated with sleep disordered breathing.
