Lorinc E et al. – The relative accumulation of submucosal gland (SMG) beneath squamous islands and the squamo–columnar junctions within the metaplastic segment supports the hypothesis that both metaplastic columnar mucosa and neosquamous epithelium originate from a progenitor in the SMG.
