Pulmonary diseases come in a variety of forms and consume a large portion of our health care resources everyday. It is estimated that 24 million adults in the United States alone suffer from COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease); 12 million of which are physician diagnosed while another 12 million are undiagnosed. Asthma currently affects 23 million people in the United States and 12 million of them have experienced at least one asthma attack during the last year. Approximately 40,000 infants and 150,000 adults have respiratory distress syndrome while another 12 million have obstructive sleep apnea.
