1 Correlates of self-reported pelvic inflammatory disease treatment in sexually experienced reproductive-aged women in the United States, 1995 and 2006-2010 Sexually Transmitted Diseases, March 19, 2013
Leichliter JS et al. - Authors assessed trends in receipt of pid treatment and associated correlates using national survey data. Receipt of pid treatment declined from 1995 to 2006-2010, with the burden affecting women of lower socioeconomic status. Methods Authors used data from the National Survey of Family Growth, a multistage national probability survey of 15- to 44-year-old women. They examined trends in self-reported receipt of pid ...

2 Comparison of 3 different postimplant dosimetry methods following permanent 125I prostate seed brachytherapy Medical Dosimetry, May 8, 2013
Marcu LG et al. - Although there are certain differences among the results given by various Postimplant dosimetry (pid) techniques, the differences are statistically insignificant for this small group of patients. Any dosimetric comparison between 2 pid techniques should also account for the limitations of each technique, to allow for an accurate quantification of data. Given that pid after permanent radioactive seed implant is mandatory for quality assurance, any imaging method–based ...

3 Personalised intervention for people with depression and severe COPD The British Journal of Psychiatry, March 12, 2013
Alexopoulos GS et al. - In a clinical trial, the authors compared a novel personalised intervention for depression and COPD (pid-C) targeting treatment adherence with treatment as usual (TAU). Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is often complicated by depression and exemplifies the challenge in managing chronic illnesses that require active patient participation in care. In 138 patients with major depression and severe COPD, pid-C led to a higher ...

4 Peri-implant Disease and Chronic Periodontitis: Is Interleukin-6 Gene Promoter Polymorphism the Common Risk Factor in a Brazilian Population? The International Journal of Oral & Maxillofacial Implants, February 4, 2013
Casado PL et al. - The aim of the study is to investigate the association between interleukin-6 (IL-6) G174C polymorphism and susceptibility to peri-implant disease (pid) and/or chronic periodontitis (CP), in Brazilian subjects. The frequency of the genotype IL-6 174GG and allele G was different between healthy and ill groups. Therefore, this genotype may be a common risk factor for both CP and pid in Brazilian populations.

5 Pelvic inflammatory disease in virginal adolescent females without tubo-ovarian abscess Journal of Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecology , May 15, 2013
Kielly M et al. - Authors present two cases of pid in young women who deny any history of sexual activity or sexual abuse. Both cases were brought to the operating room with suspected appendicitis, however laparoscopic evaluation revealed purulent fluid surrounding the pelvic organs. The literature is scant with respect to pid in the virginal patient. It is important to keep pelvic infection in the differential diagnosis of virginal patients who present with clinical symptoms of an acute ...

6 Technical and dosimetric aspects of iodine-125 seed reimplantation in suboptimal prostate implants British Journal of Radiology, May 21, 2013
Marcu LG et al. - Brachytherapy employing iodine-125 seeds is an established treatment for low-risk prostate cancers. Post-implant dosimetry (pid) is an important tool for identifying suboptimal implants. The aim of this work was to improve suboptimal implants by a subsequent iodine-125 seed top-up (reimplantation), based on the pid results. Seed reimplantation in suboptimal prostate implants is feasible and leads to successful clinical outcomes.
