Hoffken G – Decisive to improving the outcome is rapid diagnosis, risk stratification according the CRB–65 scoring system, immediate start of a risk–adapted antibiotic therapy, and the use of further adjunctive measures, such as non–invasive or invasive mechanical ventilation. Diagnostic procedures should not delay the start of the antibiotic treatment. Most important for the empirical usage of antimicrobials in this setting is the evaluation of the individual risk for a P. aeruginosa infection.
