Ramilo O et al. – Instead of focusing on the pathogen, in a paradigm shift, Zaas et al. identified host gene profiles as a strategy for diagnosis of respiratory infections. Application of host gene profiles offers tremendous possibilities for identification of diagnostic signatures, markers of disease severity, and eventually, prognostic indicators in the clinical setting.
