Role of T Lymphocytes in the Pathogenesis of Chlamydia Disease
The Journal of Infectious Diseases, 08/25/09
Igietseme JU et al. – Infection–induced immunity does not prevent the pathologic process leading to infertility. Furthermore, T cell subsets, especially CD8 T cells, play a major role in Chlamydia–induced infertility. The results have important implications for the immunopathogenesis of chlamydial disease and new vaccine strategies.
Joseph U. Igietseme, 08/25/09
| One of the implications of these finding is that immunopathogenic effector or regulatory T cells are induced during genital chlamydial infection. If these T cells recognize unique chlamydial antigens, such antigens should be removed from any vaccine designed to control Chlamydia. |
