Rockstroh JK et al. - Although liver biopsy still remains the globally accepted gold standard for assessing liver disease, the more recent introduction of noninvasive markers in form of blood tests as well as transient elastography have led to the development of new algorithms for assessing liver disease in HIV and hepatitis coinfected individuals.
