Meredith M et al. - The aim of this review is to focus on the immunostimulating agent OM-89, a biotechnology-derived lyophilized extract from Escherichia coli, a germ frequently responsible for UTIs, and formulated for oral administration. This review will cover its pharmacological effects and its actions in clinical practice with respect to both efficacy and safety. A particular emphasis will be put on clinical trials conducted in children, adults and special patient populations as well as on a survey assessing the effect of OM-89 on the patients' quality of life.
