An estimated 46.3 million people, 15.4% of the U.S. population, lacked health insurance in 2008, the U.S. Census Bureau reported. That’s 600,000 more people than in 2007. Private health coverage declined by 1 million people, while public coverage rose by 4.4 million An estimated 800,000 fewer children were uninsured in 2008. The Northeast and Midwest had the lowest rate (11.6%).
