Hospital leaders take charge of new culture of safety
American Hospital Association News, 09/17/09
Since 1994, The Joint Commission has reinforced in its leadership standards a notion that would seem to be obvious: Trustees, senior managers and clinical staff leaders must work collaboratively to deliver high–quality, safe patient care. Because of the seriousness and persistence of the rifts, The Joint Commission in 2005 convened a 29–member task force to revisit the health care leadership issue. The result was a new leadership standard, which became effective in January 2009, that calls for the development of a culture of safety.
