Environmental tours—multidisciplinary exercises in which a health care organization observes, identifies, documents, and responds to environment of care issues—are a critical component to enhancing and preserving safety and are required by The Joint Commission. In a unique strategy to involve all staff in this process, Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center (Advocate IMMC) developed its Department Safety Liaison (DSL) Program.
