The Effect of Computerized Physician Order Entry and Decision Support System on Medication Errors in the Neonatal Ward: Experiences from an Iranian Teaching Hospital
The Journal of Medical Systems, 07/23/09
Kazemi A et al. – Medication dosing errors are frequent in neonatal wards. In an Iranian neonatal ward, a 7.5 months study was designed in three periods to compare the effect of Computerized Physician Order Entry (CPOE) without and with decision support functionalities in reducing non–intercepted medication dosing errors in antibiotics and anticonvulsants. Before intervention, error rate was 53%, which did not significantly change after the implementation of CPOE without decision support.

| Dear editorial team, It is a pleasure to see that you have indexed my paper. I think it is better to add one line to the end of the summary as: 'However, after adding the dosing decision support system to the existing CPOE, the errors significantly decreased to 34% (P<.001).' This part was the main message of the article and was missing. Best regards, Alireza Kazemi, MD |
