Chen HY et al. - Classification tree based on GDx VCC data promises to be a diagnostic tool in glaucoma disease. However, its exact clinical application in glaucoma practice should be retested.

Exclusive Author Commentary
Hsin-Yi Chen, 07/13/09

Increasing evidence shows that early glaucoma diagnosis is very important to prevent vision loss. Early detection of glaucoma using ocular imaging technology has recently gained much clinical interest. The concept of development of decision tree has also been widely applied in medical field, in addition to ophthalmology . However, based on some potential limitation of this kind of case-control study, we believe that the result from the decision rule should be with potential in glaucoma diagnosis but it should be cautious in interpreting the GDx VCC data when using the concept of decision tree in real clinical practice.
