AHA asks CMS to reconsider planned PPS cuts
American Hospital Association News, 06/23/09
The AHA urged the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services' (CMS) to reconsider cutting Medicare inpatient hospital payments for fiscal year (FY) 2010, saying it questions the analysis of hospital coding and documentation that led the agency to propose a cut of 1.9% for the next fiscal year. Those cuts would amount to a loss of about $600 million in hospital payments next year alone, and are included in the proposed Medicare inpatient prospective payment system (PPS) rule for the fiscal year beginning Oct. 1.
