Health care delivery increasingly is shifting from the inpatient to the ambulatory setting. As a result, patients are undergoing more and more complex procedures and treatments in ambulatory facilities. While this has some benefits for patients and the organizations themselves, the rising patient volume creates more opportunities for error.
